If you've followed my series of posts on Virgin Voyages you've probably already realized that Virgin does almost everything a little bit differently than other cruise lines, and their Bar Tab is no different. Let's go over the Bar Tab on Virgin Voyages and the pricing on drinks aboard the lady ships.
What is a Bar Tab? Isn't there a drink package?
If you've cruised with pretty much any mainstream cruise line, including Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Celebrity you are probably used to paying a certain dollar amount per day for alcoholic and specialty drinks. Virgin Voyages does not offer a traditional drink package. They have a Bar Tab instead. Anytime before boarding the ship you can purchase a bar tab with Virgin. For every $300 purchased, you will receive an additional $50 Bar Tab at no cost. You can purchase as many bar tabs as you'd like and, unlike other lines drink packages, bar tabs do not have to be purchased be every guest in a cabin. While you can charge individual drinks onboard, it's important to note that bar tabs need to be purchased at least 24 hours prior to sailing to take advantage of the additional $50 per $300 bar tab purchased.

Specialty Cocktails
$11.00 - $13.00: Frozen drinks and many mixed drinks. These prices include upgraded liquor such as Grey Goose, Bacardi Superior, Buffalo Trace, Jack Daniels & more.
$14.00 - $17.00: Upgraded cocktails & some martinis.

Champagne: A glass of champagne will run you anywhere between $9 - $65 and a bottle will cost between $48 - $445. Don't forget you can shake your app and a bottle of Moet and Chandon will be delivered directly to you for just $100.
Non-Alcoholic Drinks:
Soft Drinks, still and sparkling water, non-pressed juices and drip coffee are included FREE OF CHARGE.

A few more important notes about drinks on Virgin Voyage:
Can You Bring Drinks Aboard With You? Guests over the age of 21 are allowed to bring two (2) 750ml bottles of wine. You can not bring any beer or spirits and the wine must be brought aboard in your carry-on! You can bring water and soft drinks but it's free on the ship so there is really no need to! Also, Virgin Voyages has banned all single-use plastic so you won't want to bring plastic bottles on board.
What is the drinking age on Virgin Voyages? Virgin is on of a very few cruise lines with U.S departures that allow guests 18 and older to drink. It's important to note that the ship must be 12 nautical miles off the coast of the US and in international waters before any sailor under the age of 21 can order alcoholic beverages.
